Meet Keilder
So what is an European Eagle Owl doing on our website? He features in the opening sequence of our recent video production explaining the green credentials of a paper tissue company. His eyes are fantastic - and thanks to a bit of painstaking production when he blinks it is to reveal the client company logo which then flies out to headline the first title.
Typical of working with animals, we had some issues with Keilder (or Kev as he is know to hundreds of schoolchildren who have educational visits from the Cheshire Falconry Centre).
Being a particularly large species of owl (extinct in the wild since the 1920's) he has difficulty flying from the falconers glove. It's because his talons dig in too much and he gets stuck.
Instead the flying sequence had to be shot with a young Bengal Eagle Owl who took a particular liking to both cameras being used to capture him swooping through a woooded glade.
